Melanie Blease Moorer

I am originally from South Carolina where I grew up and went to AC Flora High School. As a high school student, I was involved in the National Honor Society, student government, the Spanish Club, FCA, basketball, and softball. After high school, I went to Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. I graduated with honors and was involved in the National Honor Society and the Mathematical Association of America. I did my student teaching at Clinton High School in Clinton, SC. A year after college, I was married to Brad Moorer, who is now the CFO of Michigan Blueberry Grower's Association.

After graduating from Presbyterian College, I began teaching at Dreher High School in Columbia, SC. I taught there for four years, then transferred to AC Flora High School (my alma mater) for one and a half years. While teaching in South Carolina, I also went back to school and earned a master's degree in Educational Administration at the University of South Carolina. After teaching for five and a half years in South Carolina, I moved to the western part of North Carolina, following a career change of my husband's, and taught two years at Swain County High School in Bryson City, NC. Again, following my husband's career, we then moved to central Indiana where I took one semester off of teaching, then taught at Frankton Jr/Sr High School for almost four years. Our last, and hopefully final move, has recently been to southwest Michigan where I took a year off to spend with our two children, Bradley and Elizabeth. In January of 2012, I began teaching as an adjunct instructor at Lake Michigan College where I am still currently teaching.

Teaching is my passion, and throughout my career in education I am proud to say that I have also been involved in many extra curricular activities. I have led school improvement teams, authored a school improvement plan, coached both varsity basketball (where my AAA high school team won the state championship) and varsity softball, sponsored student councils and class councils, directed pageants for fundraisers, led technology classes for my fellow educators, developed curriculum for an online learning system, developed and implemented a school within a school, and even piloted a program with handheld computers.
